FAQ
1. What is the weight limit on the model 3 roof rack?
Load rating: 165lbs / 75kgs.
2. Do roof racks affect gas mileage?
Let's be honest: every roof rack has wind noise associated with it. It's almost unavoidable as there is always some drag and turbulence as the wind bounces between the roof and rack components. The Model 3 roof rack was designed and engineered from the ground up for maximum aerodynamic efficiency, minimal interior noise, and impact on range.
3. How Tight Should the Tesla Model 3 Roof Rack Be Installed?
We recommend tightening to 2.5-3.5 Nm, not overtightening the fasteners, and tightening evenly on both sides to avoid damaging the roof glass.
4. Can I transport a roof box AND bikes on my roof bars?
Yes, subject to remaining within the permitted roof carrying a weight capacity of 165 lbs or 75 kg.
5. How to install a Model 3 roof rack?
1. Apply the anti-friction tape to the corresponding position according to the instruction manual:
2. Install the roof rack rail clips and spacers at all corners of the vehicle:
a. Use the provided decoration tool to lift the seal carefully from the arrow position, then insert the rail clip to align with the arrow on the anti-friction tape.
b. Ensure the rail clip is correctly attached to the J-hook under the roof glass, then remove the decoration tool. Make sure the clip is centered on the arrow.
c. Using the icon on the spacer to identify which corner of the vehicle it will be attached to, place the appropriate spacer on the rail clip to expose the clip and threads.
3. Place the front and rear crossbars on the front and rear spacers so that the threads on the clips are exposed through the opening at the end of the crossbar.
Note
The front crossbar is longer than the rear crossbar. Before installing, make sure the clip studs are vertical.
4. Hand-tighten the wing nuts to the clips on the four corners of the vehicle; do not tighten the wing nuts until the wing nuts on the other side of the car have been hand-tightened.
5. Tighten all wing nuts to the correct specification. Ensure the mark on the wing nut is aligned with the mark on the crossbar (notch facing outwards) so that the crossbar can be locked using the provided key.
Note:We recommend tightening to 2.5-3.5 Nm, not overtightening the fasteners, and tightening evenly on both sides to avoid damaging the roof glass.
6. Use the key provided to lock both crossbars in place (clockwise for the left lock and counterclockwise for the right lock).
7. Push and pull both crossbars to ensure they are fully secured and locked.
8. Install the roof rack side covers starting from the bottom and working upwards, one on each side of the two crossbars.
Note:The bottom of the side covers has guide tabs inserted into the crossbars.
